This month’s idea:
Choose a Family Charity!

  1. Tip: Rather than choosing a different organization every year, choose a charity that your family can be involved with year-round. Work with your kids on what they can do every day to make a difference (e.g., ask your children to give a percentage of their allowance to their organization or make a goal of how much time they would like to spend volunteering every year).

  2. I totally .......... agree with what you have written. I think a family sticking with a charity for at least a year would have more meaning, and kids giving part of their allowance towards it would mean even more. A really cool thing would be to pick some place local, in Genesee County, that they could go visit and actually see the what the organization does. The family could even promote their charity to friends and other family members, if it is something they really like. The Humane Society is one good example. Habitat for Humanity is another. Salem Housing. Some of these they could volunteer at. Soup Kitchen. Shelter of Flint, Carriage Town Mission, YWCA Safe House, Motherly Intercession, Salvation Army, Schools - Eisenhower or International Academy (always in need of food and clothes), Youth Karate Ka - Harvesting Earth Educational Farm, Hurley's Children Miracle Network, Heifer and on and on ...
